POV: You bring home a new puppy and just want to love on him/her all day and night. But you also want him/her to become potty trained. You have to be very strong in order to start the puppy off right so that way in the future you have an obedient pup. This is where crate training comes in. Every hour a puppy gets of play time should equal to three hours of nap time. Yes I know, you want to be with your new addition all the time but trust me, you will benefit from this in the long run. A puppy's crate should be their home. It should be where they feel safe. Always make it a positive experience. When you put your puppy in his/her crate, he/she should only have enough space to lay down. They shouldn't have space to walk around. Think about it, would a puppy like to sit in his own pee? This teaches your pup to hold it. You should take your pup out every three hours. Usually large breeds can hold it throughout the night, where small breeds can't. Every time you take your pup out, use words like "go potty" and/or "potty outside". Once your pup has gone to potty use encouraging words such as "good potty". At first your pup might have a couple of accidents, but don't let that be discouraging. By one years old, your pup should be potty trained completely. Subscribe for more!
